National Pie Day

National Pie Day

What’s your favorite pie?  Or, better yet, what’s your favorite book about pie?

Check out our book display in the children’s department and choose a new favorite picture book, novel, cookbook, or even a pie tin craft book!  And for you adults, check out the pie books on the second floor, from the cozy Pie Shop Mysteries by Carol Culver, to Beth Howard’s auto-biographical books about baking pies in the American Gothic house in Iowa, to the pie cookbooks in 641.8652.

Here’s a few of my favorite picture books featuring pie to get you started:

The Good-Pie Party by Liz Garton Scanlon

Posy and her friends are sad that she is moving away, but find that they can turn the sadness of good bye into good pie. This is a tender, sentimental story about moving.

Ugly Pie by Lisa Wheeler

Ol’ Bear wakes up one morning with a ‘hankering’ for pie.  But not just any pie – it has to be Ugly Pie! When he discovers the only ingredient he has is molasses, he goes on a search for the ugly ingredients, singing as he goes.  If you’ve been itchin’ for some Ugly Pie, you’re in luck; the recipe is included!

Pie in the Sky by Lois Ehlert

A father and son watch the tree in the backyard, waiting for the cherries to ripen.  Famous for her paper art collage, Lois Ehlert weaves a cherry pie recipe into the pages of this fabulous book.
